The Global Innovation Index and its components: Towards secure societies through innovation
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Global Innovation Index report 2021 has been published by WIPO including many impactful partnerships with various actors in the innovation ecosystem, which gives greater impetus to the index and high reliability of the report's results. The GII 2021 focused more on human capital in scientific research, market and business development, knowledge and technology transfer, creativity, and immaterial innovation. The index showed that the Covid19 pandemic was a valuable opportunity for the revival of innovation and the increase in investments directed to its components. Environment and health were among the most attractive areas for innovation, investment, and production. The index did not touch on other important topics such as open innovation, and reconciling innovation and fairness between countries. The paper shows how the GII can help draw a roadmap for global security.
