Abstract

This paper discusses the important role played by modern examinations of DNA for forensic anthropology. These examinations are necessary for establishing the identity of old and deformed skeletal remains. They constitute an important addition for forensic anthropology. The paper also focuses on the need to depend on modern techniques in fields of DNA examinations for enhancing capabilities of forensic anthropology specialists to establish the identity of unknown skeletal remains. However, other aspects including investigations and researches should not be ignored.

The paper sheds light on examinations of genome and mitochondrial DNA from old remains and indicates how the Y chromosome is examined from such remains. It explains that because the Arab region suffers from wars and probable threats, the development of forensic anthropology and adoption of DNA examinations have become an essential requirement for establishing the identity of deformed and burnt skeletal remains, in addition to undamaged corpses. Forensic laboratories should be developed in order to follow required standards and have a degree of high efficiency to achieve accurate findings for samples including DNA breaks. It is known that DNA breaks complicate the identification of human remains.
